Parker VP

$30-80
Parker 51 Era
Filling System Cartridge/converter
Nib 14k gold
Material Plastic and metal

Parker’s first cartridge pen — “VP” stands for “Very Personal.”1

History

Introduced in 1962, the VP used Parker’s new large cartridge system — a departure from the aerometric and converter systems of the 51 and 45.1 The 14k gold nib and elegant metal-and-plastic construction positioned it as a premium cartridge pen.

Significance

The VP was Parker’s bridge between the converter-era 51/45 and the modern cartridge-dominant market. It sold well but was eventually superseded by the more versatile Parker 45 with its interchangeable nib units.1
