What to Look For

Designed by Alain Carre. First version (c. 1974) is brushed gold plate or textured stainless steel. Later 1980s-90s versions differ. Sterling silver godron variant with matching rollerball set exists (c. 1990).

Versions

The Gentleman exists in at least three distinct versions:1

  1. First generation (c. 1974): Brushed gold plate, two-tone 18K Super 6 nib, designed by Alain Carré1
  2. Stainless steel (c. 1974): Textured stainless with bright chrome clip, large two-tone 18K nib1
  3. Godron set (c. 1990): Sterling silver with gold-plated trim, matching rollerball, inlaid onyx cap disk with “W” logo1

Designer

Alain Carré designed several Waterman pens from the 1970s including the Gentleman, Man 21, DG (Directeur Général), Goutte, and Pierre Dure.1
